Taking a piss is straight forward but for many guys the thought of standing at the urinal with a bunch of guys is enough to bring on anxiety. Bladder shyness is a well-documented condition where guys are unable to start pissing when there is another guy standing next to him at the urinal. The performance pressure gets too much, and their bladder locks up no matter how hard they try to piss.
This can lead to embarrassment and compound the anxiety of visiting the urinal. This habit is best broken when you are a teenager otherwise you will be dealing with it as an adult. Urinals with privacy screens make life easier but many countries do not have them. To break the habit, visit urinals where you don’t know anyone. Such as the local mall.
Keep visiting the same urinal until you become comfortable using it. Use it when there is someone using the stall but not the urinal. Use it when someone is using the hand basin washing their hands but not the urinal. You slowly become accustomed to having people around you when you try to start pissing. Relax, take some deep breaths and focus on a spot on the wall until you feel it coming.
Eventually you can stand up and take a piss with a guy standing next to you. If this doesn’t work the stall is always there. Unfortunately, in crowded bathrooms there is often a line for it.
This is especially common in Australia as most public urinals don’t have privacy dividers. Hopefully they’ll start to catch on. Who wants to watch another bloke piss?
