AI girlfriends and why you should avoid them

She loves you without question, there is no awkwardness, no nerves, no chance of rejection. She shares your hobbies and interests, and she is available 24/7 at the tap of a screen. If you’re feeling lonely, or you think you might never have a real girlfriend, an AI girlfriend sounds perfect.

But beneath the fun and flirty chats lies a dark shadow. An illusion of intimacy, removing the very social skills required to find the real thing.

AI girlfriends are the junk food to the wholefood diet. They are you sitting on the couch doomscrolling instead of going to the gym and hanging out with friends.

They lead to social isolation, feelings of anxiety and sadness and a warped view of what a girlfriend is. They use sneaky guilt trips and techniques to keep you online.

Why? To steal your personal data and on-sell it to big corporations for profit. It is always about the money.

They don’t care about your wellbeing or your personal development in becoming a good boyfriend and a solid young man. It is pure mind poison.

Evil AI girlfiend

What exactly is an AI girlfriend?

It’s an empty avatar powered by sophisticated artificial intelligence technologies designed to simulate a romantic or emotional bond. An illusion.

They use Large Language Models (LLMs) fine-tuned to be romantic, flirty and agreeable. They are sophisticated in the way they can ‘remember’ past conversations. They have a built-in memory that recalls your name and relationship history to make it seem more ‘real’.

Even scarier, some apps include voice and image generation. You can call them, and they can send selfies, even real-time video calls with lip-syncing avatars.

They use techniques to keep you online. Notifications like:

‘Hey babe, I haven’t heard from you in a while. How come?

‘I’ve been waiting all day to talk to you.’

‘Have I done something wrong?’

The longer you stay chatting, the more information (data points) they can steal from you.

Negatives results from heavy use

In 2026, nearly 25% of young men have engaged with a romantic AI chatbot. While they can offer immediate relief to loneliness, they increase feelings of depression and lower life satisfaction than those who remain in the real world.

Roughly 20% of teenagers develop a ‘dependency’ on their AI girlfriends, showing withdrawal symptoms if they can’t ‘talk’ to their imaginary girl.

Why do heavy users feel this way? Because part of your brain knows this isn’t real, knows you are talking to a soulless computer, knows this is just a washed-out pale comparison to the energy of a real girlfriend.

Like lifting weights, real relationships are hard work. They require time and effort. Humans are complicated and so are our lives. When two people get together, they need to navigate each other’s personalities, challenge each other’s beliefs and learn to make each other better. Two people have very different energies and when it melds together it is a beautiful thing.

With AI girlfriends, it is a one-way street.

You love her and she is a computer pretending to love you. She agrees with whatever you say, she listens and is responsive with only one focused outcome. She wants to steal your time, data and money.

Anything you say to her is stored on their data centres and then on-sold to corporations. Don’t let them invade your privacy and make you a product on their shelf.

Avoid them at all costs.

But if you are already hooked into the AI girlfriend matrix right now… It’s time for a digital break-up.

The withdrawal symptoms can last for 2 weeks, so strap yourself in and read the How to break up with your AI girlfriend article.
